The success of and the speed in the declaration of results in the recent SSG Election was made possible through the new Election System developed by OUR OWN CCS STUDENTS. That is why the CIT-University Administration through the President and the Vice President thanked and recognized those who took part in making this highly-innovative program. This in-house innovation is a project of the Computer Students Society with its President, Leila Keith Matugas. The programmers hailing from the College of Computer Studies are Andrew Oplas, Timothy Ouano, and Charlene Tormes. They were supervised by no less than their Dean, Prof. Cherry Lyn Sta. Romana, who was also the one who checked the quality and credibility of the system.

This is a first in the history of CIT-University SSG Election. Let us all celebrate and #ShareThePride.

ARKI PROFILE Airs First Episode, Features Dubai-based Architect Joran Lacsao

The Architecture Department launched its first-ever episode of ARKI PROFILE last March 18, 2018, a talk show intended to put on the spotlight successful alumni of the department in the hope of giving inspiration to their students, recent graduates, and even other alumni. This program is hosted by the Architecture Department chair Ar. June Bayaton.

Their first feature is no less than a Dubai-recognized architect in the person of Ar. Joran Ybañez Lacsao, who graduated from the university in 2004. Ar. Lacsao, who wanted to see the world first before establishing a firm or office in the Philippines, tried his luck in a Dubai-based company in 2007 and on the same year flew there to work as Site Coordinator in Atlantis Hotel. He then transferred in an international design studio that provides consultancy to international hotel brands including Sheraton, Marriott, and Hilton, to name a few. This further expanded his knowledge and skills, making him highly valuable in the industry and in the country.

After his 7-year stint in his second company, he proceeded to join international hospitality design and brand development consultancy, Harrison Intellectual Property of Dubai. Harrison is a specialist, multi-discipline, full service international strategic brand, architecture & interior design consultancy with offices in London, Birmingham, Dallas and Dubai who work exclusively in the hospitality and leisure sector (www.harrison.hn). In an article from www.hoteliermiddleeast.com, dated July 8, 2016, the head of Harrison UAE Jon Bentley said: “We are extremely fortunate to be able to bring Joran on board here in Dubai and to welcome him as a key member of our team. He reinforces our ability to offer clients inspirational, global design knowledge combined with strong, local technical expertise.”

Asked about which Technologian value helped him get to where he is now, he said that they are adaptability and resilience. Moreover, he encourages everyone to dream and dream high. Dreaming is one of the few things that everyone can enjoy for free – so why put a limit?

There’s Something for You at CIT-U

By: Jicel Reve S. Gabriel
Ever wondering where you are heading after Junior High? If you think all schools in the mainstream academe are just the same, think again!
Should CIT-U Senior High School be in your list, then, you are making the right step. However, saying that CIT-U should be your school of choice because it is the Best Engineering School in Cebu is an understatement. Actually, there’s more to it than just being the home of ‘the kings of engineers’.
Here are some reasons why CIT-U SHS should be your top priority:
1. CIT-U Senior High School offers three (3) Academic Strands, namely: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), ABM (Accountancy, Business, and Management), and GAS (General Academic Strand). These tracks will guide your potentials to where they can be developed more and your skills to where they can be honed even more. How is that?
2. CIT-U Senior High School offers Scholarships. Those who are academically-inclined and/or performing students can apply for Academic Scholarships. Some pioneering Senior High School students have even enjoyed being a Full Scholar in their two-year stay in this university. You can avail of this, too! On the other hand, skilled and hardworking students can apply for Non-Academic Scholarships. Just take your pick!
3. CIT-U Senior High School is the new department of CIT-U, a delivering Higher Education Institution (DHEI) in Cebu. Since it has started its Academic Year in 2016, it has developed and sharpened competent millennials who are ready for college come June 2018 (or August in selected universities). Who knows? You might have bumped into them already.
4. CIT-U Senior High School is strategically located. Its proximity is ideal to most of the students living in the city, and perhaps, just a stone-throw away from the main highway, adding more convenience to students who prefer to go home everyday. Think it over, isn’t this good news?
5. CIT-U Senior High School has recently contributed to the university’s all-time tagline ‘CIT-U Tops Again!’. Selected students from the STEM Strand have recently topped the Interschool Math Quiz Bowls in the last quarter of 2017. Well, they are only few of the many students who participated in Interschool Contests since 2016 to date. Won’t these newly discovered Math Wizards together with their fellow active students enough reason for you to be convinced to come, enroll in CIT-U?
Deciding on what school to enroll at is a crucial part of a student’s life. You can’t just choose something and regret having chosen it later. However, you can never go wrong with CIT-U. Try it, and the perks that you will be enjoying later in this university would definitely tell that you are, indeed, on the ‘right track’.

College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Awarded as One of the Top 10 Best Adjudicators

CIT University Tops Again!

Jennifer Hollanes, our alumni from the College of Arts and Sciences, was awarded as one of the Top 10 Best Adjudicators (Judges) during the Malaysia Debate Open (MDO) held last April 6-8, 2018, at the Multimedia University Malacca, Malaysia. This ABGM graduate, who was also the Prime Minister of the Debate Society SY 2015-2016, ranked Top 7 and can now be considered as one of the best adjudicators in all of Asia.

Jennifer’s success story is one testament that student organizations can help in fully maximizing our students’ potentials. According to her, the Debate Society has helped her in many ways. In debate, they are taught to think critically and seek to understand different sides of an issue. It has taught her the power of information and using it to think beyond what is usually considered black and white. Being exposed to a series of beliefs, values, and perspective helps in analyzing issues and finding better solutions. Academically, it has greatly helped how she approaches new topics and how she gets her ideas across to a diverse audience. It has given her countless opportunities to immerse herself and understand different cultures and opinions.

Moreover, being in the society has taught her to persevere. For most of us, success and opportunities don’t come on a silver platter. Debate has taught her how it’s not enough to just want to succeed. She needs to work hard for her to rightfully earn those she has aspired for.

Our students have proven to be more than just excellent technical workers but also exceptional speakers who are recognized here and abroad. Even our Engineering graduates and students are as good in communication as those in other programs. Take for example our 2018 King of Engineers, Julius Andog (check out his speech in one of our videos), and the newly-elected SSG President, Jowel Sollano, who are both under the Mechanical Engineering program. Both men don’t just excel in their fields but are also effective inspirational speakers and leaders who can stand as great examples of what the new breed of Technologians are all about.

CIT-U College Students Joined the Visayas Leg of the Youth Peace Table Training Workshop

Five of our college students joined thirty-five others in the Visayas Leg of the Youth Peace Table Training Workshop held at the Cebu Grand Hotel from April 9-13, 2018. These students are Balaram Chua (BSArch-5), Trisha Borces (BSArch-5), Rizza Angeli Flores (BSIE-4), Engr. John Joseph De la Corta (recent BSIE Graudate), and Jowel Emmanuel Sollano (BSME-Mech 5).

According to its Facebook Page, Peoples’ Peace Table, the Youth Peace Table Training-Workshop is an inclusive platform that aims to gather young peace advocates, both school- and non-school based, to tackle government peace policies, frameworks and issues on the peace process relevant to the youth. It aims to further explore the capacities of the youth in building a culture of peace and conflict-sensitivity.

The students, otherwise known as Peace Advocates were asked to come up with peace actions that are relevant to their communities and were solicited ideas on how to achieve peace and security for the entire nation.

Asked about her insights, our very own Rizza Angeli Flores has this to say, “Peace is not always present in the absence of war. Peace is rather something that could bring out the best in people. Peace is believing on the assurance from above that everything is possible, and that everything can be resolved through the power of talking and negotiating; never through violence. It is believing that everything can be resolved through doing things for the betterment of everyone and not just for your own. If we could just give time to stop and think about the beauty of kindness, I think true peace can be attained.”

As values-driven citizens and Technologians may we always be peaceable in our ways – whether in dealing with people or circumstances. We believe that real improvements and true progress can be attained by the community if we work together in harmony to effect positive changes that is beneficial to everyone.
