#CITUniversityTopsAgain

Engr. Roshene Velasquez, top 8 in the latest Civil Engineer Licensure Examination, has this to say on her latest achievement:

In everything I do, I always have hope in my heart but with no expectations in my mind. Learning it took years of patience and persistence but it helped me become open to every possibility.

Having hope in my heart allows me to know the purpose of why I do things and why I dare to dream. Having that hope allows me to wait for the sunshine after the storm. Just like how my family, who recently had a great deal of pain and sadness with the loss of my grandfather, found that ray of light. I was in a daze for a week (two weeks prior to my examination date) not knowing what to do but I realized that I want to give my all in the exam to at least brought happiness to my family after a tragedy.

With a purpose, one can stay determined and motivated to keep on working hard and pouring out one’s best. When you know that you already did your best, whatever the result may be (with expectations or not), you can accept it wholeheartedly. Find your purpose and you’ll see that working hard comes easy.

Looking back, I still can’t believe that I did it, but then I realized that it’s not because of me but because of GOD! He gave me an ever-loving and supportive family who is always my cornerstone, my friends who stood by me through thick and thin, my sponsors who always believed in me, my high school institution (Camotes Hillside Academy Inc.) which became my foundation of learning and character, Cebu Institute of Technology – University which helped me to grow in my chosen field and molded me to become a better individual, and Besavilla Review Center which provided me that boost to make this happen.

It’s all because of our Lord’s mercy and grace that everything became possible. All glory and praise to our God Almighty!

#TeknoyTrainsTrainors

The CIT-University Academic Center for Continuing Education and Student Success (ACCESS) in partnership with the DepEd Region VII – Cebu City Division and the City of Cebu closed the Special Training Program for Robotics and Technology Education this afternoon at the University Audio-Visual Room through a mini contest.

The objective of the 3-week program, headed by IT Department Chair and ACCESS Head, Dr. Larmie Feliscuzo, is to help teachers better educate their students by giving them a specialized training that will keep them abreast with the current trends on robotics and modern technology. Their learnings shall then be echoed to their students in their respective schools to ensure that they also get adequate training on this highly-in-demand and relevant space. The closing activity also served as a mini contest where the participants showcased their new learnings in dashboard design, animation, innovation using Arduino Uno, and lastly, the line-follower robot competition. The winners were given plaques and keychains made in our very own MAKERSPACE (click link for more details: https://www.facebook.com/CITUniversity/videos/1904888382874840/).

It is our privilege to be chosen by the Cebu City government and DepEd Region VII – Cebu City Division to train and share our expertise to these teachers. As a Center of Excellence in Information Technology Education, we put it upon our shoulders to educate the community and encourage them to innovate and solve real world problems through the use of modern-day technology.

Do watch out for our next video featuring some of the participants and Dr. Larmie Feliscuzo in a short interview.

DID YOU KNOW?

According to World Health Organization, the world will be short of 12.9 million health-care workers by 2035. This will have serious implications for the health of billions of people across all regions of the world. (source: http://www.who.int/…/health-workfor…/en/)

In the US alone according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Employment Projections 2014-2024, Registered Nursing (RN) is listed among the top occupations in terms of job growth through 2024. The RN workforce is expected to grow from 2.7 million in 2014 to 3.2 million in 2024, an increase of 439,300 or 16%. The Bureau also projects the need for 649,100 replacement nurses in the workforce bringing the total number of job openings for nurses due to growth and replacements to 1.09 million by 2024. Mechanical Engineer in building design & construction

A lot of people think that the Mechanical Engineers’ job is limited to engine maintenance and repairs – professionals with grease all over their arms and uniform.

Though noble and highly-important, that kind of job is for automotive mechanics who earned the skill after few months of training in a technical-vocational school.

So what is the real deal with Mechanical Engineering? Let’s take building design and construction as an example to better understand the important role that Mechanical Engineers play. Check out this cool video!

In CIT-University, we designed a broad-based mechanical engineering curriculum that emphasizes the fundamental knowledge and skills of mechanical engineering. The University offers two tracks of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering program, embedded with new courses to tackle new emerging areas in the discipline.
These tracks are:

A. Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with Mechatronics
– which gives solution to the growing demand for engineers with interdisciplinary fundamental skills in mechanical systems, electronics systems and computer systems. Graduates of this program may find themselves in research and development, robotics, computer-controlled processes, automated manufacturing and production processes, design of automated engineering systems, maintenance of automation controls, and other systems related to automation.

B. Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with Computer and Computational Science
– which answers the growing demand for engineers with fundamental skills in providing solutions to engineering problems by simulating and modeling processes on computers. This specialization in mechanical engineering is about the application of computers to analyze the behavior of physical properties of matter as it is affected by different parameters. Thus providing efficient and accurate solutions to engineering problems. Graduates of this program may find themselves in research, machine design and product development, evaluation of thermodynamic processes, and system optimization.

For interested parties, you may visit the Department of Mechanical Engineering
for advising any time during office hours. You may also call them at 261-7741 local 116.
